... and it's barely even autumn ffs. i was at a friend's house today while he was watching a tivo'ed episode of jeopardy. one of the categories was particularly worse than the rest which beckoned me to report here. i don't remember all the specifics because i was reeling with disgust. the category had to do with shakespearean situations which were strewn together with reality tv themes. the topic of reality tv is something on which i would rather vomit than write. i dare go no further, but it was a jolt to the system of how decrepit things have become. you should have never shaved your moustache alex.

i have always had a certain affinity for russian culture and this is no exception. one of my neighbors from my short stint in san antonio recommended these movies to me. these are the first two installments of a trilogy series. imperialist fox searchlight pigs own the international distribution rights outside of russia which is a sad statement as to how my neighbor purchased his copy at walmart. while i can see why he would want to watch a dubbed version to help with his english, i prefer subtitles. the second movie is based on the acquisition of a piece of chalk! i think it's great to see mainstream movies from other countries that aren't complete shit. don't take my word for it though, check them out for yourself on netflix or wherever you appropriate foreign films.

i find this is much more relevant than what's on cable. i was eating lunch today with a barrage of 6 flat screens in my face. one of the screens was hln showing obama in hawaii playing golf in cargo shorts while the other was cnn and literally said "Plane Crash! OMG!" there was no sound on any of the screens, but i did visually confirmation that OMG was used as a headline. disgusting. with that, here's the torrent news (it keeps getting better).

i'll be visiting family for a week, but i might throw a post up on location. with any luck, that will be the only throwing up that will occur. i am glad to have a family that doesn't equate holidays with binge drinking.

i saw this on dogsonacid and thought it was hilarious enough to repost here. i mean hilarious in the strictly funny because it's true sense of the word. it reads like something the onion aspires to be. i haven't spent much time on there the past few years, but i'm definitely glad i checked it today.

* Most Americans are very polite, particularly outside of the big cities. However, outside of the big cities, everyone owns guns. Inside the big cities, almost everyone owns guns. Let's be polite together!

* If you go shopping at an American department store, they will ask you if you want to open a credit card account. They are *not* asking whether you want to use a credit card. This may seem strange but it is an American custom to offer customers a credit card, in order to make them spend more money. We suggest politely declining offers of credit cards. You may have to politely decline several times. Don't think of this as rude, the Americans have to do it too.

* Most Americans think we look like Chinese or Koreans. Try not to be too offended.

* Most Americans will think that a Japanese person standing on the street is an American, unless they are holding a camera. If you are not comfortable speaking English, you might try bringing along a camera to say "I am a tourist, please don't expect me to speak English." Except, don't try this in the big cities -- tourists get mugged in big cities.

* Americans have a social institution called a "gratuity". Basically, the price on the menu at any place which serves food is not the real price. The real price is 20% higher. You have to calculate 20%, write it under the subtotal, and sum to arrive at the real price. Taxis work the same way. It is considered very rude not to pay the "gratuity".

* In general, Americans consider it impolite to discuss politics. However, this January Obama will become the new president, and many people are excited! If they ask you what you think of him, a safe answer is [English] "Obama is really cool." or [English] "Obama speaks so well. Not like me. Hehe." Be very careful when pronouncing his name. O BA MA, just like Obama City. [Ask me later. Hilarity abounds.]

* Most big cities have Japanese food available. You may have to look hard, though -- ask your hotel for some place to eat tempura. Restaurants which say they serve sushi probably only serve makizushi, like California rolls. (Americans think California rolls are [English] "sushi".) If a restaurant says [English] "Asian" they really mean Chinese. They are probably not really Chinese, either.

* Ladies: if you shop for clothes, ask for where to find [English] "petite". It means normal sized. Ladies who are petite may have difficulty finding clothes which fit in America, except at specialty shops.

* McDonalds: Has no teriyaki burger in America. Portions are bigger and food is cheaper. Sometimes the person taking the order does not speak English. Please relax! They probably understand the set menu, although it is called [English] "combo", and you can hold up the number with your hands as shown. notice how dramatically different the coverage is from msnbc? neither of the channels showed president bush's serious response to the incident, but curiously both contained president bush making a joke not in the original ap reel. the american version repeats one thing over and over to drive into your mind that the sole important thing is a shoe being thrown. the british version uses it as a tie in to lace together a more complete story with relevant background information and iraqi man on the street interviews. the translated statement given by msnbc seemed elementary and differed greatly from the british version. it comes as no surprise that our msm is ftl.

i love the onion news network; i think they are mostly hilarious. we have a newstand for the print version of the onion at work, which is very popular, and i often tellp people to check out their videos on youtube. it's fitting in these dystopian days that their viral videos are now infected by advertising. dark times when satire joins the ranks of the corporate society at which it pokes fun. what's even worse are the incessant moronic youtube comments of people that can't even tell it's satirical in the first place. while it's a testament to quality satire, it also speaks volumes about how common sense isn't quite so common these days.

that leads me to my next segment of this entry which is about a comedy show from down under by the name cnnnn. it's an australian satirical news site that reports on and reveals america's apparent stupidity both home and abroad. of course it's completely one sided, but so is the usa msm. overall it's pretty scary to hear some of these answers.

a nation that was founded from slaves and prisoners of england is now making fun of our nation that was founded by people intelligent enough to leave on their own. they parrot us in most aspects of life, but we can't understand them because of their accents. something has to change about the general apathy of the american public. for some reason though, the man on the street bits didn't seem as funny as when jay leno did them. i wonder if that is directly proportionate to jay leno not being funny at all and also the size of his chin. i would hazard a guess of yes to both.
